Very rare signature of the 5th earl of Carnarvon who, at one time many people believed died from the curse of Tutankhamen. George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon, DL (26 June 1866 – 5 April 1923), was an English aristocrat best known as the financial backer of the search for and the excavation of Tutankhamen’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Also know known for his residence that has become a popular series called Downtown Abbey. He was there the fateful days when he and Carter both got their first glimpse inside the stairway to the secret chambers. Unfortunately Caravan died just months after the discovery due to a mosquito bit which got infected.
