This vintage round napkin ring is a souvenir from the Clyde Steamship Co. New York. Between 1918 and 1921 the U.S. Shipping Board established several routes and services and one of these was the American Colombian Line, managed by the Clyde Steamship Co. This led to a trade war with United Fruit Co. and it was agreed that the Caribbean trade of Clyde SS Co. would be separated from their domestic coastal trade. The Colombian Steamship Co., New York was then formed to operate a route from New York to Puerto Colombia, Cartagena and later to Haiti. The service expanded to the Leeward and Windward Islands and later to Brazil and other U.S. East Coast ports. In 1938 Colombian Line was consolidated with Grace Line which led to the extinction of Colombian Line as a seperate entity.
In very good condition, it does have a small bend in the upper rim and the engraving is sharp and keen, Clyde.S.S.Co. It has no makers mark but cleans up like silverplate or coin silver but I'm not sure so I will have to let the buyer decide. A great double collectible, if you collect Steamship memorabilia and an addition to any Napkin Ring Collection.
SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
