Clip point Sheffield hunting knife with stag hilt and original scabbard marked with “The Club” with dog’s head stamp on the ricasso. Imported by E. T. Allen, San Francisco. Etched on forward portion on left side of the blade in diamond shape with “legends”, “warranted”, “hand forged”, “California Hunter” (center), “fine temper”, “will hold edge”. Knife measures 12-3/4” overall with 7-15/16” blade with clip point and false edge. Thick German silver crossguard with octagonal shape and blade is of heavy construction showing ¼” stock. The blade is good to very good with slight scratches, minor sharpening, and some minor pitting. The stag scales are very good with pleasing patina. The simple and thick leather sheath (see internet photo) is probably the original and is in good condition with hand-stitching opening on the blade edge. Has unusual characteristics of both English and San Francisco style knives as it shows a Michael Price-shaped hilt. Note three “kill” notches cut into the bottom of the gripping area which are period. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
