Clifford Irving manuscript archive of "Howard Hughes." This is the publishing archive of "The Autobiography of Howard Hughes" which was supposed to have been published by McGraw-Hill in 1972, but it was never issued. The archive consists of: <r 1) The 168-page original corrected typescript for Part One of the book; it is said to be the only surviving copy. There are numerous corrections and notes throughout that were made by Irving. <r 2) Uncorrected galley proofs of Part One (41 unbound pages, folded once), labeled "Set 1";,has printer's and editor's marks throughout, pages are stained from sunlight on the edges, otherwise fine. <r 3) Uncorrected page proofs of Part One (55 folio pages, folded in half), has editor's notes and markings. Pages are slightly stained by sunlight on the edges.<r<r This archive is said to be all that remains of the book which Irving almost had published, but due to his unscrupulous behavior and deceitfulness with the publishing company, they pulled production of the book before it ever hit the shelves. Irving had forged correspondence between himself and Hughes, written it without the consent of Howard Hughes altogether, and diverted the advance he was given into a Swiss bank account opened under his wife's name. A wonderful chance to own what may be all that's left of this famed hoax, and surely it will never see the bookstore shelves.
