7 1/2" by 5". Transcribed as follows: 1417 G Street Washington Sep 5/73 My Dear Sir Found the 2nd was received after I had mailed the letter and mss of "Earthquake". Today I send you "Echo" and agree much that my delinquency has caused you any inconvenience. I expect to be more prompt in the future. You will perceive that I have or before not been able to satisfy myself except by a complete and systematic rewriting of the whole article. I am stuck on "Elasticity" and shall probably hasten and shorten it. Cleveland Abbe (December 3, 1838 – October 28, 1916) was an American meteorologist and advocate of time zones. While director of the Cincinnati Observatory in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1871-1916, he developed a system of telegraphic weather reports, daily weather maps, and weather forecasts. In 1870, Congress established the U.S. Weather Bureau and inaugurated the use of daily weather forecasts. In recognition of his work, Abbe, who was often referred to as "Old Probability" for the reliability of his forecasts, was appointed the first head of the new service.
