ALS in French, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8, Giverny par Vernon letterhead, June 21, 1907. Boldly penned handwritten letter, in full (translated): "I am quite upset that I was unable to take advantage of your good thought, but I was away (which I rarely am) and I was unaware of your letter until my return, but I will not deprive myself of the pleasure of coming to see your Cezanne exhibition. With all my thanks for thinking of me, please believe in my sincere sympathies." In fine condition, with "Collection Mme. G. Laport" ink stamps to both pages. Monet is most likely referring to the first posthumous retrospective of Paul Cezanne's work at the Salon d'Automne in 1907, which displayed 56 canvases as a tribute to the influential painter's life and work. A superb letter on an esteemed contemporary.
