Classics Illustrated Giant - An Illustrated Library of Exciting Mystery Stories (Gilberton, 1949)
Classics Illustrated Giant - "An Illustrated Library of Exciting Mystery Stories" (Gilberton, 1949) Condition: FN+. Gerber and Overstreet both classify this comic as "rare," and though we see ten rarities every day before lunch, this is the first copy of this issue we've offered here at Heritage. This square bound beauty, which could not be encapsulated by CGC because of its thickness, checks in at FN+. As for what's inside, any would-be mystery fan who hasn't experienced these influential stories should turn in his magnifying glass. Reprinted here are Classic Comics #13 ("Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde"), #21 ("The Sign of the Four," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," and "The Flayed Hand"), and #30 ("The Moonstone"), as well as Classics Illustrated #40 ("The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Adventures of Hans Pfall", and "The Fall of the House of Usher"). If you're scoring at home, that's a passel of Edgar Allan Poe tales, with Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, Guy de Maupassant, and mystery-tale pioneer Wilkie Collins contributing one story each. We think you'll agree that's a decent line-up. The cover, featuring Sherlock Holmes among other characters, is by Alex Anthony Blum. Overstreet 2004 FN 6.0 value = $456.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
