Classic flintlock Kentucky style rifle probably Pennsylvania made with patch box showing whale tail type finial and large bore of approximately .62 caliber rifled. The rifle measures 57 ¼” overall with 42 ½” barrel which is slightly over 1 1/8” across the flair of the muzzle. The metal surfaces are in good original condition showing a brown patina with some scattered erosion and light pinprick pitting. The lock is in its original flintlock configuration and is marked “Ketland”.There is a silver star inlaid into the cheek piece area of the silver plaque at the wrist which are both somewhat crudely engraved. The lock is secured by two screws and the side plate shows the initials “F.A. B.” scratched in. The stock is ingood condition and shows natural striping with some small marks, minor cracks and just normal aging. There has been some repairs to the fore end in the forward 9” on the right side with some wood neatly spliced in. We would date this rifleat about 1820-30 at the beginning of the Western expansion. Est.: $2500-$5,000
