Classic Southern style SxS percussion shotgun with what appear to be period markings on the left side of the butt stock “24 Texas Cav” and “1 over ARK”, 12 gauge, 25-1/2” barrels, heavy untouched dark brown patina on metal surfaces, worn checkered wood stocks. This gun is in overall well-worn and used condition showing dark bores, good left action but inoperative right action, unique period added hand forged iron hook through the wrist of the butt stock that was likely used as a saddle ring; well worn wood stocks that are dry and lightly cracked at the iron butt plate with scattered nicks, mars and old losses but a beautiful patina overall; rear top tang screw long missing; old wood ramrod retained by two old iron ferrules under barrels. A research notebook accompanies this piece and includes information on the 1st Arkansas and the 24th Texas Cavalry known as “Granbury’s Brigade”, showing action at Arkansas Post, Chickamauga, Franklin, Missionary Ridge, Nashville and Atlanta. Also with this lot is a copy of James m. McCaffrey’s book “This Band of Heroes: Granbury’s Texas Brigade, C.S.A. A truly interesting piece with a definite Southern look. Est.: $6,500-$7,500.
