Classic Civil War ensemble including a Colt Model 1860 percussion revolver, .44 cal., 8” round barrel, wood grips, #14882. Included in this lot is a military style leather flap holster, a leather belt and brass spreadeagle buckle, sword hanger strap, three leather shot and powder flasks and original diary of Jesse W. Horton with approx. 70 handwritten pages covering the man’s enlistment on September 28, 1861 atHarrisburg; his travel south by boat after initial training; seeing slaves preparing fields for planting; comment on the tragedy of “Capt. Rambo was shot by his Corporal by mistake, poor fellow . . . “; also reports of the firing on Fort Pulaski, battle of Charleston, etc. The gun is in overall good condition showing an even light grey patina on metal surfaces, all matching serial numbers including the wedge and arbor;approx. 65% original cylinder scene remaining, good bore, crisp action, sharp markings, four screw frame, very good to fine grips with strong traces of inspector’s cartouche on the left side of the grip.
