Classic American flintlock “Kentucky” rifle with pierced patchbox, checkered wrist, incised carved stock, silver star on cheek piece, inscribed “1791” on sideplate. The gun measures 57-1/2” overall, with approx. 42-1/2” barrel, of medium to slightly heavy weight, .36 caliber. The lock is marked H. W. Delavan & Co. The barrel has been draw-filed and browned, and the gun has been reconverted to flint by replacement of original flintlock lock, which is a close fit but not exact. The rifle has been set back between 2 and 6 inches, or reduced in length. The stock shows repair and restoration, which is of passable quality. There is some opening among the pinholes and small losses. The carving of the rear area of the butt is well done. The sideplate shows two screw-holes and the tang also shows restoration. The belly of the forend shows an old added plate where it was worn. The toe-plate is an old replacement. The triggerguard shows some repair, and as mentioned, the lock is slightly undersized. The rifle shows a wide-faceted buttplate, measuring nearly 1-3/8” wide across widest part. In our opinion the gun was made somewhere between Lancaster and Philadelphia, shows good carving,
