Auction Details

July 2011 will be quite the exciting month at Clars Auction Gallery as they gear up for an outstanding two-day Fine Arts and Antiques Auction and a special Classic Vehicle Auction. The Fine Arts and Antiques Auction will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 9th and 10th followed by the Classic Vehicle Sale on Tuesday, July 12th.



Turning first to the Saturday and Sunday sale, the art, Asian and furnishing offerings will be exceptional.



The art category will be highlighted by Modele Avec Rythme Couleur, a 1928 gouache by Sonia Delaunay (French, 1885-1979). Among the other European works to be offered will be Through the Wall, a portfolio of color lithographs by Ernest Neizvestny (Russian, b. 1926); Spring Landscape an oil on canvas by Hungarian painter Laszlo Medyanszky (1852-1919; a color lithograph entitled Painter with Hat by Marc Chagall (Russian/French, 1887-1985) and Cappelli al Vento, an oil on canvas by Italian artist Nino Caffe (1909-1975).



American art offerings will include a several California artists. The Arena Scene from Quo Cadis, an oil on canvas from A.D.M. Cooper (California, 1856-1924) will be offered as will a lovely landscape by George Demont Otis (California, 1879-1962) entitled Stalwart Oak. On the more whimsical side and highly collectible will be a drawing on newsprint entitled Pig Pen by none other than beloved Charles Schulz (American, 1922-2000).



An exceptional selection of bronzes, contemporary to classic, will also highlight this category. From Pierre Jules Mene (French, 1810-1879) will be Taureau Normande will be offered as will The Warrior by Charles Henry Humphriss (American, 1867-1934). On the contemporary side, from American sculptor/artists Ronald Mallory, (American, b. 1939) a striking plexiglass sphere entitled Diffused Mercury will interest modern collectors.



The antique furniture offerings won’t disappoint collectors. A George C. Shreve, San Francisco tall case clock, circa 1900, will be a highlight as will a pair of Beidermeier arm chairs, circa 1830 and a French Art Nouveau corner cabinet circa 1895.



In decoratives, A Rookwood Iris vase executed by Sara Saz, 1903, will be bring strong dollars as likely will cameo glass vases by Emile Galle, a KPM polychrome decorated plaque and The Friendship Egg by Theo Faberge, numbered “150” from an edition of 250. There will also be strong sterling offerings from maker such as Georg Jensen, Shreve & Company and Baltimore Silversmiths.



Special collections in this sale will include a selection of Native American blankets, baskets and kachinas and an 1897 Illustrated Atlas of Sonoma County California which is part of a selection of books to be offered.



Turning to the exciting Asian category, Clars’ July sale will feature a Chinese enameled porcelain plaque attributed to Wang Qi (Chinese, 1884-1942) Heijing & student, Republic Period. Also to be offered will be a set of Chinese soapstone figural carvings of the eighteen luochan, an assortment of ivory carvings and scholar’s object and a Chinese reverse glass painting in a gilt Chippendale style frame, Qing Dynasty.



From Japan, will be a Japanese wakizashi (short sword) in matching fittings and a pair of Japanese patinated bronze vases, Meiji period.



And now, prepare to be dazzled by the diamonds, emeralds and sapphires in the jewelry category. A diamond side hinged 18k yellow gold bangle bracelet set with 54 round full cut diamonds would be the perfect accent for the diamond solitaire ring featuring a cornered rectangular modified brilliant cut diamond weighing 4.26 cts. Or perhaps something more understated such as the thirty strand Tiffany & Co. coil necklace executed in 18k yellow gold is more to your liking.



Whatever your taste or your passion and interest, Clars’ July sale will have something to captivate all collectors. — even classic cars and vehicles because on Tuesday, July 12th, Clars will host an exceptional classic vehicle auction featuring the life-long collection of a major San Francisco Bay Area Collector. Over 80 classic vehicles, from a 1929 Cadillac Series 341-B Roadster to a 1938 Pierce Arrow Model Travelodge Trailer will be sold on behalf of the bankruptcy trustee.



Clars July Fine Art and Antiques Sale will be held on will be held Saturday, July 9th @ 9:30am and Sunday, July 10th @ 10am.
