This is an original vintage black and white photograph, not a digital reprint or reproduction. The photo was taken by George Hurrell, who contributed to the image of glamour presented by Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. Hurrell was the head of the portrait photography department at MGM and photographed every star contracted to MGM, and his striking black-and-white images were used extensively in the marketing of these stars. The photo is stamped with an MGM stamp on the front and the photographer's stamp on the back. Clark Gable was an American film actor and military officer, often referred to as "The King of Hollywood". His career spanned over three decades, and he became a leading man in more than 60 motion pictures. Gable is considered one of the most consistent box-office performers in history, appearing on Quigley Publishing's annual Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll 16 times. He was also named the seventh-greatest male star of classic American cinema by the American Film Institute.
