Famed Scopes Trial attorney, Clarence Darrow autograph letter signed on his personal stationery. Dated simply ''Nov. 6'', though circa early 1930's, letter is addressed to Dr. Forrest R. Black, law professor at University of Kentucky. Letter discusses the introduction that Darrow wrote for Black's eventual book on prohibition, ''Ill Starred Prohibition Cases: A Study in Judicial Pathology''. Reads: ''My Dear Dr. Black / Nov. 6 / Enclosed is the Forward. If it does not exactly conform to what you wanted you can add to it or cut it down. The book is a fine piece of work and at least it should not be damaged by anything I wrote. I have been terribly busy in selling the book [''The Story of My Life''] who is hands of the publishers and I took the first day that I had to write this. The paper on which it was written was the only usable thing I could find at home. Probably you will want to copy it anyhow. I hope the books will go. / Sincerely / Clarence Darrow''. Single page letter measures 7.25'' x 10.5''. Vertical crease to left side and uniform toning. Very good.
