ALS, two lightly-lined pages, 5.25 x 6.75, September 10, 1910. Barton writes from Oxford. In part: “I am sending this little Good good bye for the present. I leave on Tuesday morning for Glen Echo. It saddens me to leave without one more look at your smiling faces—and one more wish for the best to come…I have all faith in that lecture so well written and fully ilustrated [sic]…I do want very much to hear and see that lecture and if it were going to be here, when you got it started, I am sure Oxford would give you a full and enthusiastic audience.” In fine condition, with few tiny creases and two small uneven areas of toning on the second page.

Already well into her late 80s at the time of this correspondence, Barton continued to be active, traveling alone to Chicago, to her summer home in North Oxford, Massachusetts, and to her residence in Glen Echo, Maryland. At the latter locale, she successfully kept her house in order, and was often seen trimming the hedges in the spring and summer or shoveling snow in the winter. Less than two years after sending this emotion message, Barton died at the age of 90 in Glen Echo.
