Clapp, Gates and Company Confederate issue percussion .50 caliber rifled musket with 36” barrel, 51 ½” overall, brass and iron mounted with Enfield style lock manufactured at Cedar Hill Foundry, North Carolina 1862 to 1864 (ReferFlayderman 10-026.3). Approximately 661 were accepted by Confederate forces and used in the Civil War. The metal surfaces are in fair to good condition with scattered light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion with the heaviest pittingoccurring at the firing areas around the breech from being fired and used in battle. The breech end of the barrel shows a small handmade V notch sight with a matching blade sight on the barrel. The brass trigger guard and forend cap showConfederate Armory color and a matching patina. The stock is good with a restoration or repair to the front of the forend where approximately 1 ½” piece of wood was spliced in neatly. There are also some areas of wood restoration around thelock and some light cleaning to the stock. The front sling swivel is missing. A rarely encountered Confederate long arm from the William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate. Est.: $12,500-$25,000
