Air Force general (1893–1958) who commanded the famous Flying Tigers during World War II. TLS signed “C. L. Chennault,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 14, 1954. Letter to Mr. John A. Fischbach. In part: “In my opinion, all out war with Russia can be avoided if we take the necessary steps to win the small wars precipitated by the Communists in Asia. The long time objective of the Communists is to conquer Asia first and then turn their attention to Europe and the Middle East. We refused to win the war in Korea and I am convinced we can not win the one in Indochina by intervention with our own soldiers. In fact, the only hope of winning in Asia is to support Asiatics who are anxious to fight Communists in order to obtain their own objectives. At present time, the South Koreans are willing to fight in order to return to the Mainland of China.” In fine condition. Excellent Cold War content from the famed Flying Tigers commander.
