Manufactured in 1867 with a three screw frame, brass blade sight on a barrel marked "-- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U. S. AMERICA --". The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT", "44 CAL" on the left side of trigger guard shoulder, and the Texas navy scene is rolled engraved on the cylinder. Matching serial number on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap and the partial serial number "7498" is marked on the cylinder, wedge and cylinder pin. The frame, hammer and loading lever were casehardened, the brass trigger guard silver-plated and the remaining parts blue. Fitted with a one-piece smooth varnished walnut grip. Provenance: William Hoffeld Collection, Tag Number 62
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 167498
Condition: Very good plus with the metal surfaces retaining traces of blue in protected areas, with the balance a dark mottled patina. The brass retains slight traces of silvered out plating, otherwise the brass has an aged patina. The cylinder engraving is visible and the markings are clear. The grips are very good with some moderate wear on the lower edges, some minor scratches and nicks and several minor dings and dents on the butt. The action needs a hand spring as the cylinder doesn't rotate when the hammer is cocked.
