correspondence pertaining to Assistant Surgeon JB Galer 31st Regiment Wisconsin Voluntary Infantry along with Galers appointment to Assistant Surgeon by State of Wisconsin signed by the Governor Edward Salomon and dated Aug 28 1862. It is further interesting to read that later Galer resigned his appointment due to health reasons through confusion and presumably slow mail a special orders letter was written on Nov. 19th 1863 from Army headquarters in Memphis against him for absence without authority by Major Gereral SA Hurlbut, although a special orders letter gave him permission for leave of absence in July 9 of that same year 1863, another included letter on Aug 5 1863 from Wages Dept at Vicksburg is stating that there was no records of resignation from Galer and copies should be forwarded to them by order of Major Gen Grant. Additional letter on Sept. 11th 1863 certifies that he was not absent without proper authority, signed by Captain Les F. on October 19th 1863, with a proceedings letter from the War Department in Washington DC goes on to remove the bar that was put against him receiving pay. Also included is a certificate invoice issued to Galer for Medical and Hospital supplies dated Sept 29 1863 and issued from the Medical Purveyors Office in Nashville TN, two land deeds, 1879 and 1880 for land purchase made by JB Galer in Franklin County Iowa, 3 family photo albums and bible dated 1843. An interesting and historical grouping directly from the Gaylor descendants.
