<B>Indian Musket with Carved and Tacked Stock</B></I><BR>Circa 1862<BR>Length 48 3/8 in.<BR><BR>This .50 caliber Austrian musket was imported to the Confederacy during the Civil War, circumventing the Union blockade, and used to arm Confederate troops in Texas and the West. The original spring, hammer, and nipple are present while the ramrod is missing. The lockplate is stamped "862". The stock has a fine patina and is uncleaned. This gun subsequently found its way into Indian hands. The stock is carved on each side with a four directions symbol and decorated with brass tacks.<BR><BR>Provenance<BR>Tommy Haas, Riverton, Utah.<BR><BR>
