Civil War presentation grade inscribed officer’s sword by Horstmann and Sons of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The scabbard shows an inscription plaque that is inscribed, “Presented to, Lieut. Heber S. Thompson by the members of company F, 7th Pa. cavalry, August 1, 1862”. The hilt is fancy cast with floral decorations and American Eagle at the center surrounded by ornate scrolls with Medusa head on the pommel. The mounts show fancy cast and pierced decorations with three beautifulhand engraved panels. The top panel showing American Eagle with union shield and E. Pluribus Unum in banner. The center shows liberty holding her shield. The bottom panel shows justice holding her scales. The grip is wrapped sharkskin. Theblade shows bright original polish and is excellent to near mint with etched panels, stands of arms, flags, scrolls and typical Civil War motifs. The blade measures 35” and the sword is 41” overall making it acceptable for cavalry use.The scabbard shows some natural aging and toning with no cleaning and is at least very good plus.
