Union patriotic letter from early (1862)in Civil War. Vignette of a sailor holding a flag and standing on an anchor. The stationary has a red and blue border on the top and right. Address is "Camp, north of the Monocracy nears Poolesville, Maryland. The Potomac River would get quite low at this spot in the fall and considered a major avenue of attack on Washington D. C. by the Confederates. The letter is from First Lieutenant Isadora Hirsch. Hirsch was commanding Company G of the 99th Pennsylvania volunteers. Letter is addressing deserters from his unit. The 99th Pennsylvania would fight in most of the major eastern theater campaigns. Lt. Hirsch would die at the assault on Petersburg on June 17, 1864.City: County: State: PA
