Civil War era model 1861 percussion U.S. contract rifle-musket by Trenton, .58 cal., 39” barrel, full stock with iron ramrod, lockplate dated 1863, sling swivels in overall very good condition showing a light grey patina to metal surfaces,crisp markings to lockplate including spread eagle, correct barrel proofs at breech, crisp action, very good wood with some scattered old mars and scratches from carry and storage; two very clear inspector cartouches “AHT” and “A.M.Burt” (for A.M. Burton) on the left side of the stock above the trigger area; a very nice contract example made by the Trenton Locomotive and Machine Co. of Trenton, N.J. of which only 11,495 were manufactured per Flayderman’s. (Antique). Est.: $1,250-$2,500.
