Civil War era heavy cutlass by Mole, Birmingham. With forged iron D-guard and metal grip, 28-1/4” blade, 33-1/2” overall. Blade measures 1-1/4” across the ricasso. The blade, hilt, and grip shows a matching darkpatina with scattered light to moderate rust and pitting with no cleaning whatsoever. The throat to the scabbard is retained with hangar, and approx. 3/4 scabbard leather remains, missing tip which is approx. 4-1/2”. By family tradition, this was a confederate import and Mole was known to be a supplier to the confederacy. We have no way to document this as fact, so we are selling it as a Mole cutlass only.
