Civil War era Model 1850 Officer’s sword and leather scabbard by Horstmann and Sons, Philadelphia, etched blade with “US” and patriotic motifs, brass pierced hand guard with “US”, ray skin wrapped grip, leather scabbard with brassthroat, mid mount for second hanging ring and brass drag. This sword is in overall fair + to good condition showing wear and a grey patina with some scattered old nicks to the blade, nice patina to guard, missing wire wrap to ray skingrip but grip in good overall condition; the leather scabbard shows scattered scuffs, some folds and some losses of top layer of leather but is all present and would benefit from some careful conservation; the mounts show a light taffypatina.
