This is an original portrait photograph of a man who volunteered during the Civil War. * His name is William George Buehler, and entered the U.S.N. in 1857. He served during the war as Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Aroostook, and was in attacks on the James River and Fort Darling. The photo is on a card backing, and measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" approximately. Its condition is excellent, with fine details. The name of the photo studio in Boston is embossed in silver at the lower margin, along with a copyright date of 1903. His name is hand written in pencil on back. Some information from a newspaper was cut out and is included. * * This is a fine portrait of an early Civil War Naval volunteer.
