Civil War Volunteer Antique Photo J Weaver w/Provenance
This is an original portrait photograph of a man who volunteered during the Civil War. * His name is James Baird Weaver, and he was from Ohio. He was a Major, and took command when his Colonel and Lieutenant were killed. He was also an active Republican who was interested in the Greenback movement, and served as a Congressman and presidential candidate. The photo is on a card backing, and measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" approximately. Its condition is very good, fine quality, with some worn portion at the top edge, and minor margin spotting. The name of the photo studio in Washington, D.C. is imprinted in gold at the lower margin. Some information from a newspaper was cut out and is included. * * This photo represents a good piece of Civil War era military and political history.
