Civil War US Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Emerson & Silver, measuring 41? overall, with a 34.75? curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers. The blade has an overall factory bright patina throughout with scattered small spots of mild surface freckling running the length of the blade. The ricasso is maker marked on the reverse: “Emerson & Silver, Tren[ton], N[J]”; and “U.S., D.F.M., 1864” on the obverse. The brass hilt with branched guard and Phrygian helmet pommel has an overall dull ochre patina with a few hints of brighter underlying metal along some of the edges, and scattered small surface marks and scratches throughout. The leather grip is intact, as is the original braided wire wrap, and is in fine condition. The scabbard has an overall dark brown patina with streaks of brighter gray metal, and a handful of minor surface dents along its length. The drag is inspector marked (“J.M.”) and rack numbered as well: “36.” This is a very nice Civil War saber by a highly prized maker and rates fine condition overall.
