This is an early Civil War 1862 dated example of a Springfield Armory 1861 pattern rifle-musket, the primary Civil War musket as used by the Union forces. The lock plate has the standard "eagle/shield" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" markings ahead of the hammer and is dated "1862" behind it. The barrel is also dated "1862" and has "V/P/Eagle Head" proof and inspection marks on the left side at the breech. Mounted with a full stock with two clear cartouches on the left flat. The musket has a three leaf folding rear sight, a tulip head steel ramrod with swollen shank, wooden muzzle plug and "US" marked socket bayonet.

Fine. The metal surfaces have an attractive bright appearance with some very scattered light pitting. The lightly sanded reoild stock is fine with a couple hairline cracks near the lock plate. Mechanically fine.
