Civil War U.S. Model 1940 Infantry N.C.O. Sword with Scabbard
Model 1840 N.C.O. sword manufactured by C. Roby of West Chelmsford, Massachusetts and dated 1862 on the 32 inch single fuller blade. The obverse ricasso is marked : "U.S./ 1862/ F.S.S." on the right. The maker's markings are stamped on the reverse ricasso. The sword has aregulation brass hilt, with "F.S.S" on the right side of the knuckle guard, ball shaped pommel and simulated wire grip. It is complete with a black leather scabbard and brass throat, but is missing the brass tip.

Very fine. The blade is in outstanding condition with all of the original polish including the reverse polishing marks on the ricasso. Makers and inspection marks are are crisp. The guard has been varnished and is in very good condition. The scabbard shows moderate wear aside from the missing tip.
