Manufactured circa 1862 - 1865. The lock is dated 1863 behind the hammer, has the eagle/shield over "U.S." and "REMINGTON'S/ILION, N.Y." in front of the hammer and there is a Sub-Inspectors "S" stamped at the front. The top of the barrel at the breech is dated "1863" over the "V/P/eagle head" proofs. The left rear flat is marked "STEEL" and "H.S.L". The front sight is fixed and the rear sight is a three folding leaf type and there is a bayonet lug mounted on the right side of the barrel 3 inches back of the muzzle. The barrel is blue, casehardened lock and hammer with all brass mountings. Iron ramrod with tulip head. Mounted with a full one-piece straight grip walnut stock with a brass carbine style buttplate and patch box. The patch box is stamped with a "C" and the buttplate tang is stamped with "US" and a "P". The left stock flat is marked with two clear cartouches. The patch box contains an extra percussion nipple.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains 30% plus original blue finish with a gray and brown patina on the balance.The brass has a natural, untouched dark aged patina.The stock is very good with an overcoat of varnish, a 4 inch sliver absent from the upper right side of the forearm and overall some scattered minor dings, dents and scratches associated with a Civil War Era firearm. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
