Civil War U.S. Inspected Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver
Manufactured in 1862. The revolver has the three screw frame cut for a shoulder stock. The top of the barrel has the standard one line New York address, with "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene and stamped with two inspector initials and the partial serial number (2765). Inspector initials are also found on the bottom of the grip, backstrap and brass trigger guard. Matching serial number on barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, with the partial serial number on the cylinder and a mismatched wedge (1774). Fitted with an original oil finished walnut grip stamped with crisp cartouches on both sides.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 62765
Condition: Very good. The revolver has a smooth untouched dark brown patina, along with some minor spotting. The trigger guard has a smooth darkened aged patina. Much of the cylinder scene remains. There is indistinctive writing (very light) on the left side of the grip and a few white spots on the right side, otherwise the grip is very fine with a chipped toe and some minor scattered dings. The cartouches are legible. Mechanically needs work as the hammer does not hold at the full cock position. The revolver truly has an attractive out-of-the attic appearance.
