Manufactured by the Starr Arms Co., of New York, New York, c. 1858-1860 with a total production of approximately 23,000, most of which, approximately 21,000, were purchased by the U.S. Ordnance Department. Many of these revolvers were issued to mid-western Federal cavalry regiments. The right side of the frame is marked "STARR ARMS. CO. NEW YORK. NEW YORK." below the cylinder and "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856." on the right side. The matching serial number is stamped on the side of the cylinder, front of the frame and in the hammer slot. There is a "W" Ordnance sub-inspection mark on some major components. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, trigger and loading lever. Blade front and hammer slot rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with a clear boxed two letter script cartouche on each side.

Fine. The revolver retains 50% original bright blue finish with a brown and gray patina on the balance, and some scattered minor spotting. The grip is very good with a few minor dings and dents and clear cartouches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine.
