This Civil War lot which includes a U.S. Colt Model 1860 Revolver is attributed to the Cox family. From the information provided by the consignor, we know that three members of the Cox family served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Two of these members served and survived the war: James Albert Cox (April 4, 1813 to May 12, 1881) and Issac Peterson Cox (January 26, 1833 to August 4, 1918). The third family member, Shelby Tutt Cox, did not survive the war. He died on September 13, 1863. No other information has been provided or found regarding the backgrounds of these three men. Further research could provide some very interesting results. The Model 1860 revolver has a four screw frame cut for a shoulder stock and marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side. The barrel has the one line New York address and the cylinder has the Texas Navy scene. Inspection marks are stamped on the barrel, cylinder, and grip straps. Visible numbers match including the wedge. Fitted with a one-piece grip with a faint boxed cartouche on the left side. The following are Civil War artifacts that are included with this lot. 1) A Confederate States of America general service enlisted men belt plate and 5 Kentucky state seal buttons, all mounted to a frame. 2) 9 inch long powder horn. 3) A pair of spurs. 4) Two colored portraits, each in a 3 3/8 inch x 4 1/4 inch frame. 5) Pair of eye glasses with case. 6) Leather belt with sword hanger.
