Manufactured between 1863 and 1865 and later converted to metallic cartridge. Approximately 32,000 were made and approximately 25,000 purchased under U.S. contract. Dovetail blade front sight and hammer groove rear sight. Standard "STARR. ARMS. CO. NEW. YORK." address on left side of frame and "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856" on the right. Serial numbers match on the front of the barrel lug and partial number "389" in the hammer cutout on the frame, and the cylinder is marked "233". There is an "M" inspection mark on the left rear of the barrel. Fitted with one-piece varnished walnut grips absent of any visible cartouches.

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with some scattered minor scratches. The grip is about good with several minor chips on the toe, a few dents on the bottom and a few overall scattered minor dings and scratches. The action needs work, the hammer doesn't always cock properly. The markings are clear.
