You are bidding on a Early Civil War Starr Arms Co. Double Action 1858 .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver. The revolver features a 6" barrel, 6 shot cylinder, and one piece walnut grip. Only about 23,000 of this model were produced and serial numbered from 1 on up. This example has the very low matching number of 3901 indicating early pre-Civil War manufacture and no doubt used through the entire war. The serial number is stamped clearly on the side of the cylinder, the frame (under the hammer) and on the barrel assembly (on bottom by the frame). Both walnut grip sides show a fine government inspector’s cartouche- these often worn away from handling and use. A very popular big caliber side arm that was fired double action- pulling the trigger cocks the hammer, revolves the cylinder and fires the revolver all in one motion. Many saw use with the Union Forces until captured and then used on the Southern Confederate side. Most found their way to the western frontier after the war. Left side of the frame marked “STARR ARMS Co. NEW YORK.” Right side of the frame also clearly marked “STARR’S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856.” This revolver shows good condition for its age and use. The mechanics are in good condition, original front sight, and case color on original short spur hammer. This is a antique firearm. Manufactured between 1850's to early 1860's. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required. The serial number is 3901
