Civil War Spencer Repeating Carbine
Civil War issue Spencer Repeating Carbine manufactured by the Spencer Repeating Rifle Company of Boston, Massachusetts. The carbine has a blued, 22-inch barrel with folding leaf rear sight. The receiver, hammer, loading lever, barrel band and buttplate have a casehardened finish. The stock and forearm are black walnut. The carbine has a sling bar and ring on the left side of the stock. It remains in the original Civil War configuration and has not been fitted with a Stabler magazine cut-off. The top of the receiver is roll-stamped: "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO./BOSTON MASS./PAT'D MARCH 6. 1860.". The serial number, "55878" is stamped on the top of the receiver. The Spencer Carbine was the most successful and widely issued Civil War repeating carbine and was the primary carbine issued to Federal cavalry regiments during the last year of the war.

Very good. The carbine has a smooth brown gray patina on the barrel, receiver and other components. The carbine is in complete and original condition. The stock and forearm show moderate handling wear. The receiver markings are clear. There are no visible inspection marks on the stock. Mechanically functions fine with magazine tube removed; otherwise jams up. This is a very good example of a Civil War Spencer Carbine that appears to have been issued and seen actual service.
