Fine U.S. Civil War Contract Remington Model 1863 "Zouave" Percussion Rifle with Bayonet and Scabbard The Model 1863 was manufactured by the Remington Arms Co. through contracts with the Ordnance Department for ".58 caliber Harpers Ferry pattern rifles." Nearly 10,000 are reported to have been sold via Bannermans in the early 20th century. There are also some reports that Model 1863s were among the surplus arms sold to the French government for the Franco-Prussian War. This example has the standard markings and features, including "1863" on the lock and barrel. Includes a bayonet with scabbard and a leather frog and two spare nipples. The consignor indicated the frog was purchased from Bannermans in New York as an original item. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and accessories are also fine and have mild storage type wear including some speckling along the bright blade.
