This is an example of one of approximately 12,000 Model 1861 Army revolvers manufactured in 1862. This model is sometimes referred to as the "Old Army Model" and features the distinctive channel cut along the top of the loading lever to allow removal of the cylinder pin without dropping the loading lever. Marked "PATENTED DEC. 17 1861/MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS' ILION. N.Y." on the top barrel flat. The left side of the barrel and frame are marked with a "P P", a "P" on the trigger guard, "C R or B" on the cylinder, "C" upper left rear of the frame and an "H" on the bottom barrel flat ahead of the latch. The matching serial number is marked on the underside barrel flat and the left side of the frame under the grip. The German silver cone front sight is on a dovetail base and frame notch rear sight. Fine as arsenal refinished. The revolver retains 30% armory blue finish mixed with a smooth mottled gray patina. There is some minor spotting on the frame ahead of the cylinder. The grips are good with a few minor chips and some wear on the lower edges, and some minor dings and scratches overall. The trigger guard has a natural aged patina. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
