Civil War Period Snare Drum, with tag ''Made Expressly for Oliver Ditson Co., Boston-New York''. Stylized American eagle painted to outside body, 16-1/2'' dia., 15-1/4'' high, with walnut veneer exterior. Mfg'rs label is present and be seen thru vent hole, as is a more modern label from a repair company. Drum probably just post dates the American Civil War. Painted insignia measures approx. 6-1/2'' squared, consisting of a 2-1/2'' blue dia. circle with a Federal eagle in center, red maltese-shape with silver inserts surrounding the blue shield, with gold keystone motifs at diagonals. Condition is very good to near fine with soiling from use, drying to leather tension pulls, but overall very nice and completely functional. With correct period drum sticks. Est.: $500-$750.
