Civil War Patriotic 13-Star Flag, that flew over the quarters of Col. William Betts Keeler, 35th Iowa Vol. Infantry, during the American Civil War. Primarily made from wool bunting, 32''x51'', with 13 hand-sewn double appliqu‚ cotton stars, on blue canton. The flag is constructed of 13 machine-sewn wool stripes. Hoist with two brass grommets. Flag is nicely mounted in a glass-covered frame measuring 39''x58''. This type 13-star patriotic flag was very popular with Union troops and is often seen in battlefield photos. A very similar flag was captured by the 4th VA. Cavalry at Chancellorsville. Complete with framed copy of photo showing Col. Keeler in repose with pipe. Condition is fine with some machine-stitched repairs and light general toning and minor fraying to white material. The perfect centerpiece for any Civil War display. $5,000-$7,500.
