<B>Archive of Civil War Letters From a Union Soldier in the 93rd New York</B></I>. Includes six letters from William W. Hawkins of Argyle, New York, a private in Company G, 93rd New York Infantry. The letters date from June, 1862 through December, 1862. The letters range from two to four pages in length and measure 5” x 8”. Each is written to a family member including his father and sister. These easily readable letters contain a wealth of content including tales of battle and casualties, including the mention of the death of his friends. Hawkins himself was wounded in the thigh on May 5, 1864 during the battle near Wilderness, Virginia. His would necessitated the amputation of his leg and he was discharge for obvious medical reasons from a hospital at Troy, New York on July 12, 1865. The letters are slightly toned, with the usual fold creases, else very good condition. Also included is a two page letter from Jerome Sears, also a native of Albany and a in Hawkin’s regiment, dated July, 1862, letting Hawkin’s family know that William is sick and unable to write. <I>Ex.
