Civil War Letter With Good Content
Handwritten letter signed with good content, two pages both sides, 8 x 10, embossed letterhead, written by Surgeon William Githins of the 2nd Division, 14th American Cavalry. Dated December 9, 1864, Nashville, Tennessee, Githins reports to his wife as regarding the division's current status and his personal war hardships. In part, "I am still trying one plan to another to get my pay...I think my chances are good to get eight months pay...but I would be thankful to get four months pay, although much is due to me...(John) Hood is still around the city, but for a day or two things have been quiet - not even the usual amount of picket firing...I hear rumors going around that the officers of the 14th corps are ordered to report to Gen. Sherman by the way of New York - or Washington...I'd like to take that trip...but to think of you alone and in want rather has the tendency to dampen ones patriotism." Boldly signed at the conclusion and in fine condition. Est. 200 - 300
