Civil War Letter From A Worried Mother
A Worried Mother's Letter to Her Daughter During the Civil War. From Gloriana Gordon, one page, 7.5 x 10, Georgetown, D.C., March 14, 1864, in ink, to her daughter (un-named), likely in Richmond, Virginia. A poignant letter from a worried mother seeking some word of comfort from her daughter that is likely caught up in the siege of Richmond. She writes in part I am always anxious about you, but more particularly so now, since the recent difficulties in your city. She also informs her daughter of the health status of numerous of her friends. One young acquaintance is apparently hovering near death and she writes Is it not indeed true, that those whom heaven loves, die young? Gloriana Gordon was the wife of William A. Gordon, who was a prominent Confederate officer and Chief Clerk of the Quartermaster Corps of the Confederate Army. The letter has the usual fold marks but it is clear and legible and in very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
