Civil War Grouping of Charles Warren- 97th Regiment PA Volunteers. This grouping includes Warren's non-regulation officers sword with etched blade and scabbard and his officers red dress sash along with several important documents which include the following:
1. His appointment as third sergeant in the 97th Regiment dated Nov. 24, 1864 signed by two officers (one of them Lt. John Wainwright, a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor)
2. Appointment as first sergeant dated April 22, 1865- signed by two officers (including Wainwright, now a Lt. Colonel)
3. Appointment to first sergeant dated May 22, 1865- signed by Col. John Wainwright, now the Regiment Commander.
4. Muster roll dated May 26, 1865 dealing with Warren's discharge.
5. Handwritten letter dated May 27, 1865 dealing with Warren's discharge.
6. Large formal commission appointing Warren as a Second Lieutenant on May 1, 1865 in a 16: by 20" Civil War period frame.
7. Large formal commission appointing Charles Warren as First Lieutenant in the 97th Reg. INF. PA Vol. Dated June 1865.
8. Discharge certificate of 2nd Lt. Charles Warren dated August 1865.
9. Two documents relating to the pension for wartime service. One dated 1879 and the other 1890.
10. Patriotic framed service record in a professionally handwritten history of Charles Warren's participation in the Civil War. It includes engagements at Charleston, Fort Pulaski, Fort Wagner, Bermuda Run, White Hall Junction, the Siege of Petersburg, etc. Listed are his promotion, being wounded at Fort Fisher and reads, presented to, a handsome sword and sash by his company. This same sword and sash are included in this grouping, all of which came directly from an heir of Charles Warren. A wonderful collection of civil war history.
