Large 16.5'' x 10'' Frederick F. Gutekunst Jr. photograph, matted to 20.5'' x 15.75'', featuring 15 Union Generals. Photos of this many Civil War generals together are extremely rare, making this an important piece of Civil War military history. ''F. Gutekunst Photo'' is embossed into the lower right corner of the photograph, and ''F. Gutekunst, 712 Arch St. Philad'a.'' is embossed into the mat. Verso has the photography studio's original label, which lists awards the studio won. A popular American photographer, Gutekunst was favored by the east coast elite and photographed many events during the Civil War, including the Gettysburg aftermath. He is also known for a famous portrait of a young Walt Whitman. This albumen photograph is clean and crisp with no significant defects. Very good condition.
