Civil War Field Surgeon's Pocket Instruments Often times when administering to the fallen soldier in the heat of battle a surgeon's pocket instrument case was a necessity. Here we offer a 10 instrument set held by maroon velvet cloth and neatly wrapped in leather pouch. All would have fit nicely into a pocket to be carried into battle. Of some of the pieces, most recognizable are artery forceps, a grooved director, parts of catheters and a probe, along with items you would find in most emergency kits today. The leather is worn but still folds over the instruments nicely. Some of the instruments should be noted as having minimal spots of rusting. Although there is no identifying mark as to Union or Confederate, the piece was purchased by the owner from Rebacres in Raphine, VA, who certified it to be Confederate.
