Civil War Era Tower Pattern 53 Percussion Musket with Bayonet
Blade/ bayonet lug front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to "900" on the barrel with three bands, "25" and "25" amid 3 small proofs, and an integral bolster. Lock plate is marked with a crown behind the hammer, and "1863/ TOWER" ahead. Light border engraving is present on the lock and hammer, with a small engraved section on the hammer. Smooth straight grip stock marked "J. CLARK" (history unknown) on left side, with a brass tip, metal ramrod, "F" on the buttstock and a brass trigger guard and buttplate. Included with the musket is a 17 1/2" triangular socket bayonet and rawhide reinforced white canvas sling. Many of these were supplied to the Confederacy by the British during the Civil War.

Very good, with a mixed brown and gray patina, scattered spotting and handing marks. The otherwise fine wood shows mild chips and pressure dents. Mechanically very good.
