Massive Civil War-Era Staffordshire Ceramic Figure of Lincoln on Horseback. This imposing large china figurine is one of the almost enumerable varieties of figural groups manufactured in the Staffordshire region of England in the mid-19th century, both for domestic sale and for export. Interestingly, Lincoln is depicted in garb more reminiscent of a European head of state than an American president. These figures probably were high sellers in England, where our Civil War was followed with close interest. At 15.25" tall, and weighing some six pounds, this is certainly one of the most substantial Lincoln display items issued during his presidency. The figurine makes an excellent appearance, with a fine concentric crack around the neck, and minimal separation along the mold line. The coloration of the piece is regal. As a "known commodity" in the marketplace pieces similar to this one have reached sale figures in the $2500-$3500 range.
