c. 1853 to Early 1860’s Civil War Era, Imported British Model 1853 Two Band Percussion Musket, Choice Fine.
This Civil War Era Imported British Model 1853 Two Band Percussion Musket has a 39", .577 caliber steel barrel marked on the left side of the breech with British military proofs a "CROWN" over "GP" and a "CROWN" over "V". The lock is marked with a "CROWN" and "BARNETT, LONDON" in front of the hammer. Steel ram rod (a section broken off), and two steel barrel bands. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, and nose cap. All steel surfaces have a dark brown crusty rust patina. All brass parts have a dark olive green age patina. The left side of the butt stock has been altered during the period of use. Some slivers of wood missing from the ram rod channel. A large sliver of wood is missing from the upper left edge of the fore-end where there is a large age crack, otherwise is solid with scratches and dings from years of service. These muskets were imported by both sides during the war but are best known to be used by the Confederate Army.
